MV1000 Application Notes

Using the Dage-MTI (Color DC-330 3xCCD series) with MV-1000/1300 in Integration Mode

This application note demonstrates the procedure for using the Dage-MTI camera with the MV-1000 in conjunction with the MV-1300 (Color Camera Interface Module) and MV-1200 (extra 3 MB of RAM add-on module), in controlled integration mode.

Equipment used:
MuTech MV-1000/1200/1300 video digitizer/memory/color boards
VC-7 cable (available from MuTech)
VC-5RGC-HD cable (available from MuTech
Dage-MTI camera
Win 3.1/Win95/Win NT utility

To operate the DAGE MTI DC-330 3CCD Color Camera in the Integration Mode (Long Term Gating Operation) one needs to do the following:

1.The DAGE camera and MV-1000 interconnections for setting the integration mode are:

The Dage-MTI camera used in this application note has a 12-pin DC IN/SYNC connector on the back of the camera. In the gating (SS) mode, the camera reads the CCDs only after the required SYNCHRO SCAN time. An INDEX pulse is available on pin 4 of the DC IN/SYNC connector (which is fed into the BNC connector at the other end of the black cable supplied with the camera). This INDEX pulse is a logic High during CCD integration and goes Low during CCD readout. This pulse is used by the frame grabber to capture the gated CCD image. The black coax of the camera cable has to be connected to the black coax of the MuTech VC-7 cable, which in turn is connected to the MV-1300 at the 15 pin connector, while the red, green, blue and gray BNC connectors are attached to the red, green, blue, and sync connectors of the XCP-3.0-B4 cable on the DC-330.
2.Make changes in the appropriate .ini file (such as rs170rgb.ini). The external trigger has to be enabled and the proper trigger polarity has to be set. You can rename the .ini file and save it. The Sync/Trigger Selection setion has to look lik the following:
[Sync/Trigger Selection]
Sync_Channel=3
External_Sync_Input=0
External_CSync_Input=0
HSync_Polarity=0
VSync_Trigger_Polarity=0 ; these are the 2 lines which need to be set
External_Trigger=1 ; see the A.4 Appendix of the S/W manual
External_Clock=0 ; in the MV-1000 Installation & user Guide
Use_Module_Sync_Clock=0
3.Camera Control Module settings:
a.Place the camera in the On Screen Display (OSD) mode by pressing the DISP key until the menu appears on the screen.
b.Use the MENU up/down keys to choose the SHUTTER item.
c.Press the PAGE key to get the SHUTTER menu.
d.Choose the MODE item with the MENU up/down keys. Use the DATA up/down keys to choose the Synchro Scan (SS) Mode.
e.Go into the SS mode and choose the number of frames to gate (OFF to 256 frames).
f.Set the FLD/FRM item to FRM (read out a complete frame).
3.Now the camera can be operated in the Integration Mode (use the MV-1000 Windows DEMO program to test the setup. You can save the image in a .tif, .tga, or .bmp file format).
